Monohan Sandhills Maternity Session
The Sandhills, as people have come to call it, makes a perfect backdrop for any session here in the West Texas region. As long as the wind isn’t blowing too bad its a beautiful and serene place to hike and get some beautiful images. Flowers in West Texas can come and go; one year they will be here and then you may never see them again. When I arrived for this mama-to-be’s session the parking area was full of beautiful white flowers! In the 7 years that we have lived in the area I have never seen them before. This was a dream come true haha! A pregnant mother sitting in a field of flowers just screams feminine to me. We started our session in the flowers and then hiked through the dunes for more photos.
Here are some tips for shooting in the Sandhills….no shoes. I’ts so hard walking through loose sand and your shoes will be full of it. Just take them off and go barefoot! Dress accordingly. The weather here can change quickly. Watch for wind warnings and bring plenty of water. I always make sure I have water with me, especially while we are walking away from the parking lot. Because my clients are usually pregnant, it’s a lot of work for them to walk so you don’t want to have to make to many trips and wear out your client. I pack all my clothing in bags to ensure the least amount of sand on them. Sand can be itchy and irritating so bring a large trash bag to put everything in.
